Master George Maughan Where to start in my story with George? Let me take you back to the summer of 2004,I was 21 years old and on a very dark road after abusing drugs and alcohol from a very early age, I had a breakdown I had pushed my body and mind to the limit and was now paying the price. I was diagnosed with Anxiety, Panic Attacks Depression.

I had no real friends and felt extremely frightened and lost, I was desperate to get well as at that moment in my life all was lost. I was dying my life had slipped away behind a cloud of confusion and fear. I started to receive counselling which seemed to only take me into darker places at times, I visited my doctor who set up an appointment with a Psychotherapy expert, I thought this would be the fix I so desperately needed but no.

I was told it was all in my head and continue going to counselling had reached my lowest point I had suicidal thoughts because the mental pain and fear I was experiencing was so great, I was now completely lost and getting worse fear had now crippled me, I was afraid of virtually everything to go outside meet people even watching the TV gave me panic attacks, I now was in a state of anxiety 24/7.

I was outside my Fathers house one day where I was living at the time and a neighbour drove by and saw me standing alone and stop to talk to me, a chap I had known for years as I was with a different crowd at that time he asked me if I wanted a few days work I hesitantly, and then replied yes.

Terrified at the prospect I asked my counsellor what she thought and she said it was a good idea so there I was afraid to leave the house and now I was heading over to the other side of the city for a days work with a guy who had no idea what I was going through no one did as I was to ashamed of what was happening to me.

A few weeks past by of working with this chap and I seen a side to someone I had never seen or knew existed up to that point. He was kind, strong, and best of all made me laugh in my darkest hour, this was a guy I admired. Nice car great attitude never done a drug or smoked a cigarette in his life, so full of life and his own boss. I didn’t know people like him existed as all my circle were rough and drug takers, as time went by one day I told him my troubles and I will never forget the words he said don’t worry I wont let anything happen to you! I felt so safe at that moment weeks went by of work and laughter but I was still extremely mentally sick. One day he asked me to join him down in his local martial arts club again hesitantly I said yes.

I went down to the club and could see people being thrown left right and centre. My god how could I do this but I did, then one day the chap I was working with said to me would I not take a private master class with George, and told me George heals people like me all the time. Why not tell him your troubles and see what he can do for you, so I signed up for a private lesson after a few weeks getting to know George I told him my story he brushed it off as if it was nothing and told me he had cured guys much worse, I was delighted, as others I tried to tell my story got frightened and asked me to stop, but not George he was strong.

Months went buy of taking lessons with George every time I told him something negative which was a lot he would say no you are on a new road now that’s all in the past you are going to move forward with a positive attitude in everything that you do in life, he just kept building up my confidence listening carefully to my troubles yet always given me a positive way out.

He is a natural teacher and leader. After Months of Martial Arts training and being built from the ground up my confidence began to grow also I was sparring down in the club 4 and 5 guys at the same time and I felt if I could do that week in week out I could do anything and that’s the belief George gave me, his Martial Arts skills are unquestionable he is a Master in every sense of the word after about 18 Months of Training  I was a new man strong confident, I still had some relapses into dark places but they got less and less.

After about 24 months George would not even let me speak of my past traumas anymore its a Miracle, 7 years on I am strong confident and still train with George with a new circle of friends no drugs or Drink! I’m now married have my own business and will be forever grateful to the people who helped me recover especially George he really did save me from total despair as my doctor told me only 1 out of 3 ever fully recover from what I was diagnosed with but I did it thanks to George as he says the Way of the Martial Arts is the path to a new life.
