A well trained martial artist like a well trained soldier seldom will be taken to the ground in unarmed combat The only time a soldier will go to ground, is if he is shot or to take cover and to sneak up on the enemy. From the ground position he will use the clock method to pinpoint targets or to redirect fire to the target.

A well trained martial –artist should be able to use the clock method to his or her own advantage in any given situation like the soldier such as; using the centre of the clock as his base and the numbers on the clock as reference points to take evasive action, pinpoint and strike a vital target on his opponent and to manipulate him in combat.

If For Some Reason You Are Pushed To Ground And You Don’t Know How To Break Your Fall It Can Be Detrimental For You

There are several ways you can be pushed to the ground. Let’s have a look at some of the most common ways.

(1)You could be pushed to ground from behind and if you are, you need to know how to execute a forward roll that will bring you back up off the ground and back onto your feet to face your opponent. If you can’t execute a forward roll push both forearms out in front of your face. This technique will virtually cause no injuries to you. It is the guy or guys that pushed you to ground who may cause you more injury.

If you can’t fight back immediately, roll up into a ball like a hedgehog when attacked. Make sure that you cover you head with your hands, placing both hands to back of your head left over right. At the same time pull both forearms into the sides of your face. This action will help to protect you from serious injuries. Bear in mind that after a few seconds if they think that you’re unconscious they may just walk away from you.

(2)You could be pushed to the ground from the front and if you don’t know how to break your fall it can be detrimental for you. If it ever happens to you and you don’t know how to brake your fall, place both forearms flat out away from your sides and onto ground to stabilize your base as you hit the ground. Make sure you keep your head off the ground. If the guy that pushes you to the ground decides to beat you up and you are not going to fight back, you need to cover up.

If you decide to fight back and you are still on the ground as the guy or guys start to attack you, spin on your butt as you kick out at them, with both feet, to give you time to get up off the ground. An experienced martial artist would have some techniques to deal with this type of confrontation such as; a reverse role that would bring him back up off the ground onto his feet ready to deal with the next situation.

Most disciplines would have some techniques to deal with this type of street altercation and other disciplines like to take the fight to the ground. That’s OK if you are only fighting one guy, but try to take more than one guy on the street to the ground and you know who’s going to come off worse?

In Competitions You Can Submit By Slapping Your Hand Off The Floor Matt Or Off Your Opponent – On The Street That Option Does Not Exist – There are no Rules. On The Street You Are Fighting For Your Life!

Don’t be surprised if after training for a few weeks you are not as ready as you thought you might be, to protect yourself in the street environment. Let me ask you a question: how long does it take for a person studying a course to be successful even with the basics? As you probably already know some people learn faster that others. A good teacher will always know when to come down to the level of a person who may need a little more tuition. You only have to cast your mind back to when you were in college, some subjects come easier and others. Some subjects would involve a greater deal of mental or physical effort to get a good grasp of the subject.

Bear in mind it is better to have some knowledge than have none when it comes to prevention and self defense techniques for your own personal safety in your environment.

Grandmaster George Alexander Maughan is back with a bang (and a kick) with his home study courses of self-defence DVDs entitled: special street combat survival, for everyone. Let me get straight to the point – George is a realist when it comes to the unforgiving world of street fighting.

A really annoying and serious flaw of many instructional DVD’s on street self defense is that the techniques demonstrated are simply not intense and technically proficient enough to deter the savvy street fighter. Today, probably more than ever, with the increase of violent on innocent people on the streets, in their car and at home and holidays…

Make no mistake; today’s street environment is as violent as ever.

Such extreme demands a particular type of expertise to counteract its potentially devastating effects. George Alexander Maughan is definitely a man for the task.

What George does best is to effectively empower the individual with a repertoire of devastating techniques. This is where George excels. The DVD is very comprehensive in teaching self-defence against many attack situations and even includes effective techniques against gun, knife, baton and multiple assailant attacks. George’s analytic breakdown of each technique combined with his verbal instructions is exceptionally clarifying. Initially, I was a little confused about some of the techniques but as George breaks down each technique with easy to follow instructions they became immediately clear and obtainable to the viewer.

His anticipation, footwork, balance, posture and uncanny ability to instantly put his opponent off balance and vulnerable to attack are a sight to behold. He also has an incredible ability to expose and damage his opponent’s weaknesses as he defends and attacks!

Another great strength of George’s arsenal is his versatility as a fighter. This is apparent as he teaches the viewer an impressive array of long, medium and short range weapons in his devastating selection of street combative techniques – elbows, knees, face clawing, palm strikes, hooking kicks, blade kicks, crescent kicks, hammer blows, straight punches along with locks, limb breaking and knee drops are just some of the techniques he uses to great effect.

An outstanding feature of the DVD is his teaching of anti-rape defence techniques for women. They are effective and, I’m sure, well appreciated techniques for women interested in learning real world self-defence. He also, encourages awareness – so people can anticipate and avoid potentially threatening situations in the street environment.

There is very little left to chance in George’s DVD – he simply covers all bases and teaches great self-defense Demo Clip in a myriad of situations. I never thought I would ever learn an effective self-defence technique for an individual that is kneeling over, tying his shoe laces, who is about to be attacked by an assailant with a roundhouse kick to the head. But George does exactly that – he actually demonstrates a great technique from such a disadvantageous position – and it’s damn fast and effective! When it comes to street defence George is a fighter in perpetual motion – always thinking, always attacking, and always one step ahead.

The layout and quality of instruction within the DVD are of the highest standard. When it comes to martial arts George has an undeniable gift for demonstration and communication.

George’s aim in his DVD collection is to share real world self-defence techniques to the average individual so that, he or she can ward off street attacks with confidence and excellent technique however there is something here for everyone who would be interested in improve their skills in Street Survival Techniques, Highly Recommended.

knife_attack Kenpo Karate An Insight into Kenpo History; Kenpo can be traced back to the period around the 1600’s and to Shoaling Temple and their lineage of the past and present masters. And Beyond this there are Kenpo techniques which go back into ancient history.

Kenpo or Kempo is a Japanese term which means “the way of the law of the fist.” Originating in China, this art made it way to Japan shortly before the 1600’s and came to Hawaii in 1936.

Daruma or Bodhidharma Sanskrit was an Indian priest who promised his master that he would spread and develop the Zen Sect of the Buddhism. He set out walking through India and china, eventually ending up at the Shoaling Temple. Upon arriving there, he discovered the weakened physical condition of the monks; Daruma taught them a series of exercises called the eighteen Lohan to strengthen their bodies and enable them to practice to strike and how to meditate which was part of this “new” religion.

Kenpo migrated to Hawaii in 1936 under this name and introduce to the public for the first time in 1942 at the Official Self Defense Club at the Britannia Mission in Honolulu.

William K.S. Chow began studying with the Kosho-Ryu family and received a black belt from the current master, Mr James Mitose. Chow had previously studied boxing and judo he had also studied the Chinese martial arts which had been in his own family for generations. In this particular art, he was taught the circular movements which had been deleted from the Kosho-Ryu syllabus. Chow then combined the circular movement of his family arts and the linear movement of the kosho-ryu and taught his syllabus too many non- Asian students. The classes were very hard and extremely physical.

Ed Parker was introduced to Chow by his first instructor, Frank Chow. He had a special introduction before he was admitted into the school. Ed Parker had previously studied boxing and judo for four years. He graded to his black belt in 1948. Parker decided to teach Kenpo as a profession and wanted Chow to come to the mainland with him to open a school. Parker went to Brigham Young University and returned to Hawaii in 1951 to join the coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.

Parker asked Chow again to come to United States to open a school with him and he declined and Chow wished him the best of luck.

Parker taught in the local police department and at college during his days at the university. Bert Goodrich, Brother-in-law to Vic Tanny, Invited Parker to come to California and open up several gyms and introduce karate. By the time Parker arrived in California, American Health Studios had brought out the defunct Vic Tanny gyms and with it went his plains for the future. Parker borrowed $300.00 from a friend and opened his own school by himself in 1956.

In addition to Professor Chow’s modifications, Mr., Parker has also realized the need to revise the old methods to cope with modern day fighting. Thus the system he now teaches is unique, practical, realistic applicable and encompasses sound logic, reasoning, and theoretical innovations. Through Mr. Parker’s innovations, a fifth system has emerged-the American System-to be more specific “Parker System of Kenpo.

Carjacking

The crime of holding up a car and either stealing it, robbing the driver, or forcing the driver to drive somewhere for criminal purposes.

CARJACKING has become one of the most prevalent crimes in many parts of the world. Most carjacking occur for the sole purpose of taking the car; it is a crime without a political agenda and does not specifically target Americans.

You can protect yourself Simply by taking into account a few precautionary measures to keep yourself safe in your environment such as becoming familiar with the methods, ruses, and locations commonly used by carjackers.

Abduction is to snatch somebody away by force or by deception!

AVOIDANCE

The first step to avoiding an attack is to stay alert at all times and be aware of your environment. The most likely places for a carjacking are:

High crime areas

(Rural areas)

Intersections where you must stop

Isolated areas in parking lots

Residential driveways and gates

Traffic jams or congested areas

Learn to avoid these areas and situations if possible. If not, take steps to prevent an attack.

In traffic, look around for possible avenues of escape. Keep some distance between you and the vehicle in front so you can manoeuvre easily if necessary–about one-half of your vehicles length. (You should always be able to see the rear tires of the vehicle in front of you.)

When stopped; look around you, use your rear and side view mirrors to stay aware of your surroundings in your environment. Also keep your doors locked and windows up. This increases your safety and makes it more difficult for an attacker to surprise you. (A surprise attack can come from anywhere at any time)

Accident’s are one rush used by the attackers to control a victim. The following are common attack plans.

The Bump this is when the attacker bumps the victim’s vehicle from behind. The victim gets out assessing the damage and exchanging information. The victim’s vehicle is taken.

Good Samaritan The attacker’s stages what appears to be an accident, they may simulate an injury. The victim stops to assist, and the vehicle is taken.

The Ruse the vehicle behind the victim flashes its lights or the driver waves to get the victims attention. The attacker tries to indicate that there is a problem with the victim’s car. The victim pulls over and the vehicle is taken.

The Trap Carjackers use surveillance to follow the victim home. When the victim pulls into his or her driveway waiting for the gate to open, the attacker pulls up behind and blocks the victims car.

If you are bumped from behind or if someone tries to alert you to a problem with your vehicle, pull over only when you reach a safe public place.

If you are driving into a gated community, call ahead to have the gate opened. Otherwise wait on the street until the gate is open before turning in and possibly getting trapped.

Think before stopping to assist in an accident. It may be safer to call and report the location, number of cars involved, and any injuries you observed.

You can avoid becoming a victim. Ruses and methods, as well as the types of cars most often targeted, differ from country to country. Talk with the regional security officer (RSO) at your post about local scams and accident procedures.

In all cases keep your cell phone with you and immediately alert someone regarding your situation.

DURING A CARJACKING

In most carjacking situations, the attackers are interested only in the vehicle. Try to stay calm. Do not stare at the attacker as this may seem aggressive and cause them to harm you.

There are two options during an attack–nonresistive, no confrontational behaviour and resistive or confrontational behaviour. Your reaction should be based on certain factors:

Type of attack

Environment (isolated or public)

Mental state of attacker (reasonable or nervous)

Number of attackers

Weapons

Whether children are present

In the non confrontational situation, you would:

Give up the vehicle freely.

Listen carefully to all directions.

Make no quick or sudden movements that the attacker could construe as a counter attack.

Always keeps your hands in plain view. Tell the attacker of every move in advance.

Make the attacker aware if children are present. The attacker may be focused only on the Driver and not know children are in the car.

In a resistive or confrontational response, you would make a decision to escape or attack the carjacker. Before doing so, consider:

Are you capable of taking care of the situation?

The mental state of the attacker…

Possible avenues of escape…

The number of attackers; there is usually more than one.

The use of weapons… (Weapons are used in the majority of carjacking situations.)

In most instances, it is probably or safest to give up your vehicle.

AFTER THE ATTACK

Safety is the utmost important
Always carry a cell phone or radio on your person to contact someone immediately always have your cell phone fully charged.

If you are in a populated area, immediately go to a safe place. After an attack or an attempted attack, you might not be focused on your safety. Get to a safe place before contacting someone to report the incident.

Reporting the Crime
Describe the event. What time of day did it occur? Where did it happen? How did it happen? Who was involved?

Describe the attackers. try to note height, weight, scars or other marks, hair and eye color, the presence of facial hair, build (slender, large), and complexion (dark, fair).

Describe the attacker’s vehicle. If possible get the vehicle license number, color, make, model, and year, as well as any marks (scratches, dents, damage) and personal decorations (stickers, colored wheels).

The golden rule for descriptions is to give only that information you absolutely remember. If you are not sure, don’t guess!

CONCLUSION

Avoidance is the best way to prevent an attack. Use your judgment to evaluate the situation and possible reactions. Know safe areas to go to in an emergency. Always carry your cell phone or radio.

Non confrontation is often the best response. The objective is not to thwart the criminal but to survive!

Everyone needs to take care of themselves in car at Work in your home and on holidays. I would like to ask you a question, How could you prevent an attack happening to you? Simply by taking into account a few precautionary measures to keep yourself safe in your environment.

This course gives you an excellent insight into how to prevent attack and defend oneself in your environment. (Excellent Course for all of the Family)

How to prevent it happening to you!

You know we all love the comfort of our own home but what security measures should we take to secure our own personal safety and the safety of our family and visitors. What training do you have, if any, in combat survival skills?

When someone breaks into your home and you become aware that there are people in your home you need to make a Spontaneous decision such as; the safety of your family, have you calculated where the intruders are in your home, what action are you going to take against the intruders, Have you some knowledge of combat, are you capable of taking care of the situation, will you fight to the death to save your family? Do you have any training courses in self defense skills? What future steps should you take to prevent a break-in or forced entry?

The safety of your family is your first Priority!

What to do if it happens to you; You should have a carefully devised plan of action that all the family are aware of, and should rehearse it several times a year like a fire drill. Such as; if you are aware of intruders in your home and they have not made their way upstairs, immediately get your family into one room, lock the door while one of you call the cops, and others are jamming a bed up against the door to make it harder for them to enter or break down the door, open the window and shout out to your neighbours.

If the intruder or intruders have made there way up the stairs and into you bedroom you will have to make a vital decision either to intercept and take them out, or stay in bed and pretend that you are a sleep until they leave your home. If you decide to take them out, you will have to take into account several considerations such as; the law which is different in each country, you could use minimum force but you may have to use maximum force to save you life.

Will you need to use a weapon to defend yourself and your family? When an intruder or intruders leave you home, never pursue them. So many people have made that mistake and never made it back home.

Forced entry

What is a forced entry; it is when an intruder or intruders kick down your front door without being invited in! If you are at home when your door is kicked down you could go into shock or you may intercept them? I was speaking to a few cops lately and they told me that the intruders have the time down to 60 seconds to be in and out of you house, one place they very seldom go to is the attic because they could get trapped in it. If you can imagine a soldier can march 120 paces in 60 seconds so what can they do if they are sprinting around your house, you must remember that they know where to look for your goods.

Controlled fighting frame of mind

If you have a controlled fighting frame of mind and you are prepared to fight to death to save your family, you become fearless and you will have no distraction to interfere with the task at hand.

What security measures should you take to secure your home while the recession is here? There are more burglaries than ever before? You should fit sensor lights around the outside of your property. A sensor light is capable of detecting and responding to physical stimuli such as movement, light, or heat, and if you can afford a good camera you may need more than one camera to secure your home. It is better to be able to see an intruder than have him surprise you. It also makes sense to have a well trained dog or dogs at your command, an intercom with a camera is essential so you can see and speak to a person at your front or back door.

At night lock all doors and windows. If you have to leave a window open, put in on the second safety catch, especially when you are going to bed at night and switch on your alarm.

Make sure to have mortise locks fitted to the front and back door and make out an inventory of personal items, so you can identify them if they are stolen and then recovered. You should have a multi – sensor fire alarm fitted if you don’t have them already, especially if an intruder decides to set fire to your house, you want to be able to exit safely. Make sure you have some fire extinguishers and a fire blanket in your kitchen.

Master George Maughan Where to start in my story with George? Let me take you back to the summer of 2004,I was 21 years old and on a very dark road after abusing drugs and alcohol from a very early age, I had a breakdown I had pushed my body and mind to the limit and was now paying the price. I was diagnosed with Anxiety, Panic Attacks Depression.

I had no real friends and felt extremely frightened and lost, I was desperate to get well as at that moment in my life all was lost. I was dying my life had slipped away behind a cloud of confusion and fear. I started to receive counselling which seemed to only take me into darker places at times, I visited my doctor who set up an appointment with a Psychotherapy expert, I thought this would be the fix I so desperately needed but no.

I was told it was all in my head and continue going to counselling had reached my lowest point I had suicidal thoughts because the mental pain and fear I was experiencing was so great, I was now completely lost and getting worse fear had now crippled me, I was afraid of virtually everything to go outside meet people even watching the TV gave me panic attacks, I now was in a state of anxiety 24/7.

I was outside my Fathers house one day where I was living at the time and a neighbour drove by and saw me standing alone and stop to talk to me, a chap I had known for years as I was with a different crowd at that time he asked me if I wanted a few days work I hesitantly, and then replied yes.

Terrified at the prospect I asked my counsellor what she thought and she said it was a good idea so there I was afraid to leave the house and now I was heading over to the other side of the city for a days work with a guy who had no idea what I was going through no one did as I was to ashamed of what was happening to me.

A few weeks past by of working with this chap and I seen a side to someone I had never seen or knew existed up to that point. He was kind, strong, and best of all made me laugh in my darkest hour, this was a guy I admired. Nice car great attitude never done a drug or smoked a cigarette in his life, so full of life and his own boss. I didn’t know people like him existed as all my circle were rough and drug takers, as time went by one day I told him my troubles and I will never forget the words he said don’t worry I wont let anything happen to you! I felt so safe at that moment weeks went by of work and laughter but I was still extremely mentally sick. One day he asked me to join him down in his local martial arts club again hesitantly I said yes.

I went down to the club and could see people being thrown left right and centre. My god how could I do this but I did, then one day the chap I was working with said to me would I not take a private master class with George, and told me George heals people like me all the time. Why not tell him your troubles and see what he can do for you, so I signed up for a private lesson after a few weeks getting to know George I told him my story he brushed it off as if it was nothing and told me he had cured guys much worse, I was delighted, as others I tried to tell my story got frightened and asked me to stop, but not George he was strong.

Months went buy of taking lessons with George every time I told him something negative which was a lot he would say no you are on a new road now that’s all in the past you are going to move forward with a positive attitude in everything that you do in life, he just kept building up my confidence listening carefully to my troubles yet always given me a positive way out.

He is a natural teacher and leader. After Months of Martial Arts training and being built from the ground up my confidence began to grow also I was sparring down in the club 4 and 5 guys at the same time and I felt if I could do that week in week out I could do anything and that’s the belief George gave me, his Martial Arts skills are unquestionable he is a Master in every sense of the word after about 18 Months of Training I was a new man strong confident, I still had some relapses into dark places but they got less and less.

After about 24 months George would not even let me speak of my past traumas anymore its a Miracle, 7 years on I am strong confident and still train with George with a new circle of friends no drugs or Drink! I’m now married have my own business and will be forever grateful to the people who helped me recover especially George he really did save me from total despair as my doctor told me only 1 out of 3 ever fully recover from what I was diagnosed with but I did it thanks to George as he says the Way of the Martial Arts is the path to a new life.

Anyone who is thinking of buying Georges DVDs which are fantastic in both quality and content or to train with him directly you will not be disappointed he is an extremely intelligent man a true martial arts master and philosopher.

Forever Yours in Martial Arts James

To be successful in Kenpo martial arts or in life itself Discipline! plays a big part and of course to study under a good teacher, train hard, and know your subject. Have an open mind in all that you do, not only in martial arts but in life itself!Demo Clip

Simplicity is the keyword to be successful in Martial Arts training or in life itself. You need to be taught how to build up a controlled fighting frame of mind and to be prepared for the unexpected in combat. It is vital that you can read the situation as you approach your opponent or when your opponent approaches you, whether in combat or in life itself.

It is essential in combat that you can override the pain factor! In order for you to have a successful outcome, you will need to be prepared to fight to the death to overcome your fear in combat. Never turn your back or take you eyes off your opponent or opponents in combat. if you do you could lost the fight if you try to remember your techniques you could lose the fight, they should be spontaneous…

Striking your opponent or opponents; Be like the wind, your opponent cannot see it, but he sure can feel it. Strike your opponent or opponents like a tornado, reading his thoughts, his tell-tale signs, and therefore beating your opponent or opponents to the punch or kick.

In combat a well trained martial artist will know when to draw on his inner strength, it will be spontaneous. When in combat, you will need to take control of the situation by using the Clock Principle to manipulate your opponent or opponents with continuous fluidity, covering and striking vital and minor targets on your opponent; it is the key to a successful outcome in combat.

You must be free of thought for your subconscious to click in; then you will be successful in combat, Subconscious is present in the mind without the awareness of it. When your subconscious clicks in you will flow like the Eagle moving gracefully. You could say your hands and feet have a mind of their own when you’re subconscious clicks in. The subconscious is the mental activity not directly perceived by consciousness, from which memories, feelings, or thoughts can influence behaviour without realization of it.

Reaction time is crucial time; it’s the Time one takes to react to any given situation in combat or life itself. The difference in being successful or not, being hit or not, being killed or not, (A) you see and react, (B) You hear and react, (C) You feel and react to that given situation.

The perfect fighting stance in Kenpo Karate and Martial Arts; For proper balance, agility, lightness, and power are essential. The perfect fighting stance is no more than a walking pace, your weight being evenly distributed at 50/50 on each foot making it easy, for you to move with ease forward, back, side step to your right and left, bob up and down, and jump with ease.

Defeat, you must never let it enter your thoughts; Don’t doubt your ability to succeed in Martial Arts or in life. You need to control your own peculiarities such as telegraphing your moves, bad habits you may have picked up in other sports, or in life itself, to be successful in combat or life itself you need to able to control your emotions to flow with speed and power beyond belief.

A surprise attack can come from anywhere at any time. Your assailant or assailants will not know how you will react or what knowledge you have in Martial Arts or life itself so you see, who is surprising who.

Meditation is the time one takes out for oneself to clear ones mind of any distractions that may interfere with ones thoughts. You need to take into account your breathing, if you can breathe correctly it will improve your energy level, meditation and also help you to draw upon your inner strength spontaneously, remember you must be free of all distractions for you to conquer your goals in martial arts or in life itself.

The secrets of the Martial Arts lie within your own capability, through your own diligence and training.
